Who is Manya Singh?
Manya Omprakash Singh belonged to small town ‘Hata’ of district ‘Kushinagar’ in Uttar Pradesh, India. She is 19 years old. She is doing her graduation from Thakur College of Science and Commerce, Mumbai. Additionally, She is the Runner-up of VLCC Femina Miss India 2020 which was held on February 10, 2021. It is the 57th edition of VLCC Femina Miss India and was digitally held for the first due to the Pandemic. Also won ‘Miss India Uttar Pradesh’ in 2019. Her father ‘Omprakash Singh’ is an ‘Auto-rickshaw’ Driver and her mother ‘Manorma Singh’ works in Beauty parlour, and has a younger brother too.
Due to her family circumstances, she worked as a dishwasher at ‘Pizza Hut’ in the evening and at the call centre’ at night. Despite all these things, she scored 80% in class 10th examination. But, her further studies were neglected as she was involved in doing part-time jobs. People made fun of her ‘English’ and her appearance but she never gave up on her dreams. Though‘Manasa Varanasi’ from Telangana became the winner of‘VLCC FeminaMiss India 2020’but being a runner-up Manya Singh’s inspirational story became the talk of the town.
Her journey towards ‘City of Dreams’.
She ran away from her hometown ‘Hata’ at the age of 14 to pursue her dreams as she believed that it is not the valid place to achieve her dreams. She went to Gorakhpur, boarded a train and stayed in Kandivali, Mumbai. ‘Pizza Hut’ was the first where she worked after arriving in Mumbai. Her family left their Hometown too. They left to support and encourage their daughter’s dream. Her father became ‘Auto-rickshaw’ Driver and her housewife mother started working in Beauty parlour. At the age of 15, she aspired to be ‘Miss India’ and wanted her dad to feel proud.

Though initially, her relatives didn’t support her idea to participate in such fashion contests her parents always supported her to achieve her dreams. Her mother’s jewellery was mortgaged to pay for her school fees. Along with her study in college, she auditioned for many beauty pageant competitions. People demotivated her English and also taunted her that she doesn’t have a beautiful and charming face. But, she neglected these negative factors and finally became Runner-up of ‘VLCC Femina Miss India 2020’ achieved her dreams and made her parents feel proud.
In an interview, she said that she was inspired by ‘Priyanka Chopra Jonas’.
Her Felicitation ceremony was held in her college ‘Thakur College’ where her father bought his ‘Auto-rickshaw’ for her.
She and her mother sat in the ‘Auto-rickshaw’ and a grand rally was lead by his father’s Auto-rickshaw’ which was organised by her college on her arrival to the event. Her parents became emotional when she arrived at the event. Her Felicitation ceremony videos went viral on the Internet where she made her parents feel proud.
She didn’t reveal much about her future plans but she said that she wants to buy a home and gift her parents for supporting her to achieve her dreams. Because her parents too left their hometown to support her dreams.
Becoming an Internet Sensation.
After becoming runner-up of ‘VLCC Femina Miss India 2020’, she shared her journey on Instagram and thanked everyone who supported her. But, her story inspired many due to her struggling journey than the winner ‘Manasa Varanasi’. ‘Humans of Bombay’ interviewed her and shared her journey on Instagram. Many celebrities and social media personalities also appreciated her. Samantha Akkineni (South Indian actress), Manushi Chillar (Miss World 2017 and Femina Miss India 2017), Varun Dhawan, Arjun Bijlani, Sophie Choudhary etc. appreciated her on social media.
